Dr. Patterson is an enthusiastic and compassionate eye care professional. She has a special interest in caring for those with ocular disease and ensuring that all children are able to achieve their full potential through comprehensive vision examinations. She values a strong doctor-patient relationship together with educating her patients thoroughly on any condition they may have. She will spend the extra time needed to take care of any of your eye care issues. Dr. Cara Patterson will be available for eye exams in our Avondale and Gresham Rd locations.

Background

Dr. Cara Patterson, originally from Arkansas, received her undergraduate degree from Mississippi State University in Starkville, Mississippi. She went on to earn her Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee where she served as an officer of her class and Student Volunteers in Optometric Service to Humanity (SVOSH). Her participation in SVOSH allowed her to complete mission trips to Mexico and the Dominican Republic in order to provide eye examinations, medications and glasses to patients unable to obtain them. She was also involved with her student government and charitable work with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Toys for Tots.

Dr. Patterson is a member of the American Optometric Association (AOA), Georgia Optometric Association, and Cornea and Contact Lens Section of the AOA. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, exploring Atlanta and enjoying the outdoors.

Expertise

Dr. Patterson completed an externship at Missouri Eye Institute in Springfield, Missouri, where she concentrated on the diagnosis and management of numerous ocular diseases, injuries and pre/post-surgical eye care. She also completed an externship at All Ages Vision Care in Charlotte, North Carolina. There she became skilled in the areas of pediatric neurodevelopmental optometry and vision therapy. Neurodevelopmental optometry includes learning-related vision problems, eye turns, lazy eyes, eye movement problems and many other developmental problems that may occur. She has also spent extra time training with experts in the field of bifocal contact lenses and other difficult contact lens cases.
